Digital surrogacy is increasingly recognised as a means of improving accessibility to otherwise vulnerable material and thereby prolonging its existence. NCS specialises in high quality digital copying for vulnerable material at low prices. Our studios in Hackney and in Oxfordshire are fitted with high-end cameras, copy stands and book cradle equipment that can accommodate captures of items measuring up to A0. We integrate digital imaging into conservation work streams, improving the efficiency of both activities, often capturing very poor condition items after cleaning and before treatment so as to ensure the best legibility and reducing the extent of treatments necessary to make items usable.  We also specialise in reformatting for plastic photographic collections in large numbers, from 35mm upwards, in order to facilitate freezer storage.

NCS team members are trained in the use of the digital imaging equipment as well as being qualified conservators. This means imaging of your important and often vulnerable items is carried out safely and to the best quality. When work is caarried out at our dedicated studios we have an arrangement with our partner archives that host our studios to hold valuable items in their EN16893 and BS4971-compliant archive repositories when they are not under the camera, in order to optimise the safety and security of your objects. We carry out imaging of individual items or large series of records, books, plans and photographs etc.

If you need digital copying under conservation conditions and at an affordable price, contact NCS.
